Last week brought a lot of progress as we finished the long bridge spans and returned to laying panels on grade.
Ken arrived early in the week and finished the bridge ties on the steel spans and then installed the final 16′ of trestle. Bob was busy building panels on Wednesday. John O came out Thursday afternoon and moved the initial loads of dirt for the roadbed for the curve around the lake. Ken finished off the roadbed on Friday.
On Saturday, a crew of 16 were busy all over the area.
- Doug and Kathy installed the remaining bridge ties and tie plates on the final trestle. Then, they moved to the loop and began cutting the yaupon that has grown back since this right of way was initially cleared. This work made the future tractor grading work possible.
- Linda and Sofia installed the remaining tie plates on the steel bridges and followed up with the 1×2 outer guard rails on all of the bridges. At the end of the day, they began installing the inside guard rails.
- James brought all of the bridge ties needed to finish phase 1 which he cut at home. He helped install the 1×2 guard rails and then installed the culvert in the curve before the road culvert bridge.
- John T and Ken laid panels from the trestle to the road culvert bridge.
- John O and Tim worked on the bridge ties for the road culvert bridge. One tie every couple of feet is bolted to the bridge while the others float.
- Stephen and Chris positioned the driveway culvert bridge, built abutments, and backfilled it with dirt dug from the extremely low lake bed.
- Near the end of the day, nearly everyone participated in moving the road culvert bridge outward to better accommodate the curve.
- We had a special guest: Stephen and Lori’s daughter’s mother-in-law, June, was in town visiting from the UK. June and Lori prepped a large buffet for the crowd. Linda also popped in periodically to help with setup as well. We couldn’t pull off these workdays with the awesome work in the kitchen.
- On Sunday, Stephen moved the brush piles created by Doug and Kathy to the future burn pile. Then, he began grading and clearing roots from the loop.
